Artist's Statement:
For the past several years, my work has included simple
earthen-colored clay pots, flowering bulbs and lush greenery. Originally
the result of an attempt to warm up during an especially harsh winter, I
soon fell in love with the subject matter. Now, those plants and
pots, as well as the actual fruit of the earth (voluptuous apples,
misshapen pears) almost always find a place in my works.
At the same time, I have continued with the
"Dancing Table" series and have noted that lushly frosted cakes
have become part of the table settings. Sometimes those cakes are the sole
star on the table, sometimes they remain a player. Either way, I
believe they are a admonition to both artist and viewer to celebrate life.
Recently I began working with broken materials, found
objects and other "throw-away stuff" of our society to
create works I consider beautiful.
These common, everyday images are utilized to remind all
of us that the ordinary is extraordinary. I hope my work reflects
the vitality, excitement and precious nature of our world and the
rich joys of everyday life.
