An exhibition of paintings by the artist Luke Hillestad, curated by James Conaway. Luke Hillestad is a Minneapolis-based artist whose rich figurative paintings cut through the constraints of temporality and culture to expose the essence of humanity that is raw, enduring, and timeless. His paintings show his profound regard for the masters of the past and their superior craftsmanship as he creates narratives around themes of war, birth, death, kinship and human interaction. Hillestad’s process is organic and tactile, using friends as live models for all of the paintings, and employing traditional materials like rough linen prepared with rabbit skin glue.
